SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC ESTIMATION OF AMBROXOL HYDROCHLORIDE, LEVOCETIRIZINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE AND PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE IN TABLET DOSAGE FORM BY DERIVATIVE SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHOD

ABSTRACT
The present manuscript describes simple, sensitive, rapid, accurate, precise and economical derivative spectroscopic method for the simultaneous determination of ambroxol hydrochloride, levocetirizine dihydrochloride and phenylephrine hydrochloride in bulk and tablet dosage form. Derivative spectroscopy offers a useful approach for the analysis of drugs in mixtures. In this study a first-derivative spectroscopic method was used for simultaneous determination of ambroxol hydrochloride, levocetirizine dihydrochloride and phenylephrine hydrochloride using the zero-crossing technique. The measurements were carried out at wavelengths of 242.2 nm, 276.2 nm and 232.2 nm for ambroxol hydrochloride, levocetirizine dihydrochloride and phenylephrine hydrochloride respectively. The linearity was obtained in the concentration range of 5-35 µg/ml, 4-28 µg/ml and 2-28 µg/ml for ambroxol hydrochloride, levocetirizine dihydrochloride and phenylephrine hydrochloride, respectively. The concentrations of the drugs were determined by using correlation regression equations at three wavelengths. The mean recovery was 99.77 ± 0.75, 100.06 ± 1.4 and 100.18 ± 1.28 for ambroxol hydrochloride, levocetirizine dihydrochloride and phenylephrine hydrochloride, respectively. The method was successfully applied for simultaneous determination of in pharmaceutical dosage form.
